If you need to remove a dent in wood, place a clean, damp washcloth over the dent, and with a hot iron, iron the area just above the dent.  The steam from the cloth will penetrate the wood, and swell the fibers, restoring them to their original location.

A couple of notes:

• Be careful not to burn yourself... the cloth will be hot

• Try not to get the rest of the wood wet, or you may damage the rest of the finish.

• Some light sanding may be required

• You may have to restore the finish to match the original

• If the wood fibers have actually been broken, the damage may still be noticeable after the dent is raised.
