If you need to remove a dent in wood, place a clean, damp washcloth over the dent, and with a hot iron, iron the area just above the dent. The steam from the cloth will penetrate the wood, and swell the fibers, restoring them to their original location.
A couple of notes:
Be careful not to burn yourself... the cloth will be hot
Try not to get the rest of the wood wet, or you may damage the rest of the finish.
Some light sanding may be required
You may have to restore the finish to match the original
If the wood fibers have actually been broken, the damage may still be noticeable after the dent is raised.
